Building a modern, 4,500 square foot retirement home on the top of a mountain isn’t easy. Neither is making the endless number of decisions entailed in this project scope; every selection from floor to ceiling had to be determined, which could have been daunting. Additionally, the overall aesthetic had to support the Client’s extensive collection of African artwork, sculpture, and furnishings, yet boast a modern vibe rather than the typical mountain wilderness cliche'. The Client’s rental included a mother-in-law suite, which we turned into a design studio where selection samples were collected. I developed a proprietary process for visually organizing the various choices as they flowed through the home to ensure a cohesive continuum of complementary finishes. It was such an effective tool the architectural firm adopted the process for future Clients.
